Isabell Carter, 92 of Bushwood, MD went to her heavenly home, on April 3, 2023 at Medstar St. Mary’s Hospital with her family by her side.
She was born on September 8, 1930 in Birmingham, AL to the late George Whatley and Rita Bailey Whatley. When she was growing up her friends and family would call her “Bell”.
Isabell worked as a nursing assistant for over 11 years at D.C. General Hospital and that’s where she met her husband. She married the love of her life, Ralph Carter on December 10, 1955 in Washington, D.C. They spent 65 wonderful years together, until his passing on July 13, 2021. They raised two beautiful daughters and a son together. She enjoyed fishing alongside her husband and dancing with him or just to music playing. She loved gardening and her plants and flowers both indoors and outdoors and she especially liked receiving them. She was content to be home raising her family and teaching them how to cook and do domestic chores around the home. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and daughter because family was important. She always made sure they went to church on Sunday and had dinner together that was family day.
She is survived by her children, Lavern Carter of Bushwood, MD and her nephew, Maurice Gaither (Shirley) of Bowie, MD and good friends Lisa Rogers and family Michael Mock with a host of family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carter, her daughters, Lisa Candace Carter and Robin Emory Carter, her granddaughter, Isabell Carter, her sisters Cecilia Whatley Gaither and Lorine Whatley Gaither, her brothers, George Whatley Jr., Johnnie Whatley and Elmer Lee Whatley. She was that last of the Whatley’s.
I Lavern will always love the both of you forever.
