On Saturday, June 10, 2023, at approximately 12:52 p.m., firefighters from Bay District Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 47000 block of Green Leaf Road in Lexington Park, for the reported vehicle on fire.
Prior to firefighters arriving on scene, the assignment was upgraded to a structure fire due to the vehicle fire threatening the nearby residence. Which alerted additional firefighters from Bay District, NAS Patuxent River and Ridge.
Engine 31 arrived on the scene with 5 personnel and found an SUV fully engulfed in flames spreading to a nearby van and melting the siding to the residence.
Crews extinguished the fire in under 8 minutes and held the units from Bay District and NAS Patuxent River, with the rest placed in service.
No injuries were reported.
State Fire Marshals Office was contacted and the fire is believed to be accidental.
