Doris Frances “Dolly” Shorback, 79 of Lexington Park, MD passed away on October 14, 2023 in LaPlata, MD.
Dolly was born on June 29, 1944 in New York City, NY to the late Harold Joseph Bracken and Doris Ann Kautz Bracken.
Dolly came to St. Mary’s County when her father was stationed at Patuxent River Naval Air Station. It was here that she met the love of her life and married Charles William “Charlie” Shorback on May 4, 1969 in Lexington Park. Dolly and her mother owned the Powder Puff Beauty Salon. She was later employed as a Beautician for Castillion Hair Fashions and as a Veterinary Technician for Breton Veterinary Hospital. A horse enthusiast in her youth, Dolly was a lifelong dog breeder. Dolly and Charlie enjoyed trips to the Appalachian Mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee.
She is survived by her son, Robert Laurence Shorback of St. Cloud, FL; daughter, Laura Lynn Bowles of Summerville, SC; sister, Patricia Biscoe (John) of Leonardtown, MD, and grandson, Evan Daniel Bowles. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Philyaw.
Interment will be held privately at St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, 16566 Three Notch Road, Ridge, MD 20680.
