Lawrence Nimrod Wilson, Jr.

October 24, 2023

Lawrence Nimrod Wilson, Jr. passed away peacefully in Mechanicsville, MD on October 20, 2023, surrounded by his family and his faithful dog.

Born on January 31, 1947, to Lawrence and Grace Wilson in Washington, DC.

After graduation, Larry went into the Army and served his country during war, developing a deep sense of loyalty and discipline. Although his time in the Army came to an end, Larry remained proud of his service and commitment to his country. His honorable discharge on May 11, 1972, marked the end of one chapter in his life, but it was also the beginning of new opportunities and adventures. Before, and after service, Larry was a Volunteer Firefighter in Hillside, Maryland and he was a paid Firefighter at Naval Surface Warfare Center at White Oak. He went on to work in construction on many different disciplines and levels for over 50 years.

In 1993, he met his future wife, Joy Lynn Wilson, in Accokeek, Maryland. They were married on June 30, 2000, in Leesburg, Virginia. Larry and Joy both brought children into their marriage, Steven Wilson of St. Leonard, MD, and Cheyenne Childress of Colorado Springs, CO.

Larry retired in 2020 after becoming severely ill. He bounced back after fighting for over a year to only become diagnosed with cancer in mid-2023.

Larry had many passions in his life from hunting, fishing, and boating to spending time with family at the drag strip watching his son and brother racing. He was extremely mechanically inclined and loved fixing or building things. He loved traveling, especially anywhere tropical. He was a devoted husband to his wife and loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. His dog was his constant companion, and he was rarely without her.

Lawrence is survived by his beloved wife Joy Lynn, his son Steven Wilson (Tori Wilson), his daughter Cheyenne Childress (Asher Childress), his grandchildren, Ryan Wilson and Ashley Wilson, and his brothers John Wilson (Rose Wilson) of Hubert, NC, and Richard Wilson of Port Republic, MD and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for the visitation on Thursday, October 26, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with the service beginning at 12:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622.
