Helen Williams Bowling, 86, of Frostburg, MD, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2023, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on May 6, 1937, to Joseph and Ethel Williams in Mechanicsville, Maryland, Helen lived a fulfilling life.
Helen was born and raised in St. Mary’s County. While a senior in high school, she met Benjamin L. “Buddy” Bowling.
They fell in love and were married on March 4, 1956. The couple had three children: Benjamin R. “Ricky” Bowling (Jackie) of Mechanicsville, MD, Scott Bowling (Mary) of Frostburg, MD, and Sandra Bowling of Frostburg, MD.
Helen worked for the Charles County Board of Education for many years as a teacher’s aide. Her last assignment before retiring in 2004 was as an aide in the library at TC Martin Elementary School in Bryantown, MD.
Helen’s greatest joy was spending time with her family. She cherished gathering around the table with them for summertime crab feasts, cracking open shells, and sharing stories. Shopping was another favorite pastime, spending hours browsing stores, selecting clothes, and finding the perfect gifts. Helen loved how her weekend trips with her sisters were filled with shopping, talking, eating at new restaurants, laughter, and love.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, husband, and siblings: Stanley Williams, Jimmy Williams, Raymond Williams, Leroy Williams, and Anna Marie Quade. She is survived by her three children, sisters: Doris Heard of Olde Town, FL, Nancy Kragh of Heathsville, VA, and Faye Gatton of Leonardtown, MD, her grandchildren, Joseph Bowling, Jill Bowling, Benjamin “Austin” Bowling, and great-grandchild Elora Bowling. Also surviving are brother-in-law Calvin Bowling, Alvin Kragh, and sister-in-law Pat Bowling, Mary Ann Williams, Eleanor Williams, Linda Williams, and Margaret Williams.
The family will receive friends on October 26, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. Prayers will begin at 7:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, October 27, 2023, at 10:00 AM, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bryantown, 13715 Notre Dame Place Bryantown, MD 20617, followed by interment in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Joseph Bowling, Austin Bowling, Lee Bowling, Mark Williams, David Williams, and Kenny Barbour.
