Sean Eric Moran, 56 of California, MD, passed from this life to eternal life on October 15, 2023, at Unity Hospital, in Rochester, NY, and was greeted by his maternal grandparents Royce and Mable Meyer (Morgan).
He was born on February 24, 1967, in Washington, D.C., to Christopher James Moran, Jr., and Dolores Marie Moran (Meyer) of Gambrills, MD.
Sean attended Arundel High School, located in Gambrills, MD, and played on the tennis team. In 1985, he graduated with honors. He continued his education at Towson University and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1990. Sean completed his studies at Western Michigan University Thomas Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan where he obtained his Juris Doctorate degree.
Sean’s first job was as a baker for his Uncle Barry’s Bagel Shop in Annapolis Mall, where he developed an appreciation for Bagel Dogs and Pizza Bagels. But, his passion was playing basketball, Atari, and every game you could imagine. If there was no game, he made them up – just to have a little friendly competition among friends. He usually won, but he never learned how to win gracefully – in form and in practice.
While a senior at Arundel High School, Sean applied and was accepted into the prestigious student internship program at the National Security Agency located in Ft. Meade, MD, where he cultivated his love for public service (and a good poker game after work among friends). Following law school, Sean served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable John Hanson Briscoe and as an Associate Attorney at Baldwin & Briscoe. Believing strongly in the rights of due process for all Americans, Sean joined the Public Defender’s Office in Leonardtown and later worked at the State’s Attorney Office, also in Leonardtown, MD. Most recently, he worked for Harris and Capristo, LLC, as a Legal Attorney.
On November 24, 2022, Sean married Cathy Lynn Brown of California, MD. Together they enjoyed watching movies, Netflix series (their favorite being The Chosen), sporting events, family events, and a good game of dominoes (except when Sean did not win, which was kind of frequent.) Sean was a passionate sports fanatic particularly as he cheered on his favorite Washington sports teams – the Commanders (Redskins), the Capitals, and the Nationals. Sean attended many Washington Football games as a child and adult since his parents had season tickets for 50 years. The highlight for Sean was attending Super Bowl 17 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA, to defeat the Miami Dolphins 27-17, for their first Super Bowl title. (Sean claimed they won because he was there, and he’s probably right.)
Except for one time in High School when Sean made an all-spice hamburger, he was a great cook. His famous hot lemon pepper chicken wings and cream of crab soup were family favorites. He was a “skilled” dancer. His mastery of the legendary Moran-style and Robot dance moves were a modern marvel. Sean was a happy baby, child, and man-child. He brought laughter, smiles, and kind words to everyone he met. His high-energy personality, quick wit, and contagious laugh will never be forgotten. He never said an unkind word to anyone – well, at least outside the courtroom.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he is survived by his children, Mackenzi Moran of Glen Burnie, MD; Ryan Moran of California, MD; step-children Megan Picard of California, MD, Brandon Picard of Lexington Park, MD, and Justin Picard of Baltimore, MD; sister, Kristin (Moran) and brother-in-law Rob Siegfried of Odenton, MD; nephew, Griffin Siegfried; and grandson, Liam Picard. Sean is also survived by a close extended family who adored him: the Kohans (Joyce, Barry, Lisa, Lori, Sharee, Steven, and Jenni); the Dudleys (Judy, Martin (Nook), Marc and Jeff; and the Baileys (Cathy, Patrick, and Chrissy).
Family will receive friends on Sunday, October 22, 2023, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., with a short prayer service at 3:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, P.A., 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD, 20650.
