One Child Injured After Vehicle Reportedly Runs Red Light in Lexington Park

On Sunday, January 14, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the intersection of Great Mills Road and South Essex Drive in Lexington Park, for the reported motor vehicle collision with unknown injuries.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a two-vehicle T-bone style collision involving one van overturned with all occupants out of the vehicles.

EMS evaluated seven occupants from the van which included 2 adults and 5 children.

The sedan was occupied by one adult female who denied transport.

Two adults and four children from the van were not transported. One child was transported to an area hospital.

Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded and investigated the collision as witnesses reported the sedan ran a steady red traffic light, resulting in the van being struck in the driver side doors and overturning.
