One Flown to Trauma Center After Single Vehicle Strikes Pole and Flips in Great Mills

On Sunday, February 25, 2024, at approximately 3:08 p.m., police, fire and rescue personnel responded to the area of Flat Iron Road and Guenther Drive in Great Mills, for a motor vehicle collision reported serious with one vehicle overturned and one trapped.

Crews arrived on the scene to confirm a single vehicle overturned with the single occupant trapped.

Firefighters from Bay District and Second District Volunteer Fire Departments responded and extricated the female operator in under 30 minutes.

A helicopter was later requested to transport the victim.

Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 landed nearby and transported the adult female to an area trauma center with injuries believed to be non-life-threatening.

Preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole and trees where it rolled multiples times before coming to a rest on its side. The operator was conscious and talking.

Deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. A small dog that was in the vehicle is currently missing.
