Donald Earl Braun, Sr, 84,

Donald Earl Braun, Sr, aged 84, from Hughesville, MD, peacefully passed away on March 21, 2024. He was born on December 24, 1939, in Washington, DC, to Earl and Emma Braun.

He grew up in Charles County and graduated from La Plata High School in 1957.  After graduation, he began work as a Steamfitter/pipefitter for Steamfitters Local #602 in 1958 retiring in 1998. He enjoyed what he did for a living and was well respected in the trade.

He married Mary (Tootie) Berry on April 9, 1960 in Dillon, SC.  They were blessed with three children, Tammy K. Braun, of Mechanicsville, MD, Donald E. Braun, Jr (Suzanne) of Mechanicsville, MD, and Timothy W. Braun (Terri) of Warsaw, VA.

After retirement, he started Braun Builders, LLC as a second career.  He enjoyed working alongside his grandson Tony Hamilton in this venture.

His leisure time was spent traveling in their RV to favorite places such as Nashville, TN, Niagara Falls, NY, Lake of the Ozarks, MO and other destinations on the east coast. He often traveled with family and friends.  Another hobby was buying and refurbishing vintage John Deere tractors.  Donald always had a bountiful garden and shared his produce with others.  He raised beef cattle and hogs on his farm for many years.

Donald was predeceased by his beloved parents. He is survived by his wife of almost 64 years and his children.  He leaves behind his siblings, Patricia Hancock, Jane Fruh (Frank), Linda Cavanaugh, and Richard Braun (Kimberly) eight grandchildren, Tony, Nick and Jeff Hamilton, Stephanie Maus, Sarah and Annette Braun, Melissa Braun and Ashley Mclendon and 14 great grandchildren.

Donald was a gentle giant of a man, soft spoken, always had a smile on his face, and was respected and loved by those he encountered throughout his life.

The family will receive friends for the visitation on Tuesday, March 26, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with prayers beginning at 7:00 pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A., 30195 Three Notch Road, Charlotte Hall, MD 20622. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 11:00 am at St. Paul’s Episcopal  (Piney) Church, 4535 Piney Church Road, Waldorf, MD 20602
