Retirements and Commendations

Virginia “Ginger” Quade
Virginia Quade was recognized for her 11 years and four months of service with the Saint Mary’s County government. Corporal Andrew Holt

Building Code Amendments
Jessica Andrews, Director of Land Use and Growth Management, presented proposed amendments to Chapter 203 (Building Construction) and Chapter 223 (Inspection Fees) of the county code. Sheriff’s Office Position Reorganization
Katherine Pratzen, Director of Human Resources, and Warden Marianne Thompson presented a proposal to reorganize positions within the Corrections Division. The reorganization aims to create a career ladder for booking specialists and corrections security specialists, enhancing retention and flexibility. The proposal was approved.

Human Resources Reorganization
Katherine Pratzen also presented a proposal to reorganize the Department of Human Resources. The reorganization aims to streamline the benefits administrator position and support the implementation of a new salary classification process. The proposal was approved, resulting in salary savings and improved departmental efficiency.

Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan
Arthur Shepherd, Director of Recreation and Parks, and Deputy Director Jessica Heil presented the 2024 Recreation and Parks Strategic Plan. Agricultural Land Preservation Ranking
Chris Castle, Director of Economic Development, and Priscilla Leach, Ag and Seafood Division Manager, presented the rankings for properties to be considered for the Maryland Agricultural Land Preservation Foundation (MALPF) funding. The commissioners approved the rankings and authorized the submission of applications for seven properties encompassing 765 acres.

Breton Marketplace Lease for Health Department
Deputy County Attorney John Houser presented a proposed lease for additional office space for the Saint Mary’s County Health Department at Breton Marketplace. The lease aims to alleviate space constraints due to increased staffing. The commissioners approved the lease.
