Linda Gail Hamilton, 77, of St. Mary’s County Maryland (most recently of London Ohio) died Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at Springfield Regional Hospital in Springfield, Ohio.
Gail was born April 12, 1947, in Bath, Maine, daughter of George and Cora (Bettis) DeWolfe. She lived in the riverside “City of Ships” for her first 6 years before she and her older sister Myrtle moved to Maryland with their mom. After coming to the Mid-Atlantic region, her mom eventually remarried and the family settled in Seat Pleasant Maryland where she lived until graduating from Central High School. While working in Washington DC, she met and began dating Richard Anthony Hamilton, Jr and they married on March 29, 1974. After their marriage Gail and Richard lived in many areas between Maryland and Northern Virginia but spent most of those years in St. Mary’s County, where Gail was near family and made many life-long friends. In 2018, five years after her beloved Richard’s passing, Gail moved to Ohio to spend time with her stepchildren, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, where she lived until her passing.
Gail spent most of her life endeavoring to help other people in various ways – through her more than 50 years with Al-Anon, her job, and her family. She recently received her 52-year chip with Al-Anon, having been active with this group that was very near and dear to her heart no matter where she lived and having been a sponsor to countless people throughout the years. While she had various jobs in her younger years, working in various offices in the Washington DC, metropolitan area, the job she thrived at and got the most joy from was her years at Center for Life Enrichment in Hollywood, MD. She loved her role as a direct care worker for the Center for Life Enrichment, helping people with disabilities improve their personal and vocational skills. With her family she was always there to be supportive, caring for family members, pet sitting, and, over the decades, spending weekends entertaining three generations of kids with arts and crafts, cooking, and activities. Gail was an integral part of the fabric of our family.
Gail is survived by her father Barry Madden, sister Pamela Madden (David Cohen), nephew Jeffery Reed (USAF); niece Ashley Lathroum, great nieces Marlyne, Raquel, and Brook Romero; brother-in-law Jose Torres, stepson Michael (Vicky) Hamilton, daughter-in-law Diana Hamilton; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her mother Cora Mae Madden, father George DeWolfe, sister Myrtle Louise Torres, husband Richard Anthony Hamilton, Jr., stepson Richard Anthony Hamilton, III, stepdaughter Mary K. Scott, and son Steve Brantner.
