Reuben Deppores Miller Jr., 57, of Lexington Park, is facing criminal charges following an alleged assault involving a vulnerable adult at a local residence earlier this month.
Miller Jr. was charged with second-degree assault and abuse of a vulnerable adult by a custodian, according to court documents filed in the District Court for St. Mary’s County.
The charges stem from an incident that reportedly occurred on the evening of April 20, 2025, at a residence on Columbus Drive.
Authorities responded the following day to a report of domestic assault at the Arc of Southern Maryland, where the incident was initially disclosed.
A program manager at the organization told responding deputies that a male adult with disabilities, who receives support services from the Arc, had informed her he had been assaulted the previous night by an adult male.
According to the probable cause statement, the adult male victim—diagnosed with intellectual disability, autism, and speech apraxia—claimed he was physically assaulted by Miller, who is identified in the documents as a “father figure” and caretaker. The incident reportedly took place inside their shared residence.
The victim stated that during a verbal dispute, Miller allegedly pushed him into a chair, placed a hand on his neck, and punched him in the face. Officers noted several visible injuries on the victim, including:
- An abrasion on the bridge of the nose, reportedly caused by the victim’s glasses during the fall.
- A red mark on the neck.
- A bruise on the left shoulder area.
- A large abrasion on the upper back, reportedly caused by contact with a countertop during the scuffle.
- A witness, identified as the victim’s brother, confirmed that Miller initiated the confrontation by grabbing the victim’s neck and shoving him.
Miller acknowledged a physical altercation had occurred, admitting to pushing the victim into a chair during a dispute over headphone usage. However, he denied punching the victim and claimed that the injuries could have occurred from the victim frequently bumping into a nearby counter.
Miller was arrested and initially held without bond on April 21, 2025, but was later released on his own recognizance the following day. His attorney is listed as the Public Defender for St. Mary’s County.
Miller faces the following charges:
- Abuse of a vulnerable adult by a custodian (CR.3.605.(b)(1)) – a misdemeanor punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $5,000 fine.
- Second-degree assault (CR.3.203) – a misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or a $2,500 fine.
The case remains open and is under active investigation by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office.
