On Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at approximately 6:14 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services from St. Mary’s and Calvert County were dispatched to the area of Fletcher Court and Green Holly Road in California, for the reported watercraft in distress in the Patuxent River.
Due to the USCG Urgent Message to Mariners announcement, a nearby tug boat, the Ross Sea, responded to assist as well.
Bay District VFD, Lexington Park VRS, Solomons VRSFD, US Coast Guard, DNR Police and other agencies responded. Rescue Engine 92 arrived on scene at the observation point located at the private landing at the end of Green Holly Road, where firefighters observed the overturned Catamaran and at least one person in the water near the vessel.
Solomons VRSFD Rescue Boat 3 (Marked as PFVRS Boat 4) went underway shortly after and arrived on scene ahead of USCG and DNR by about 2 minutes. The lone individual in the water was rescued and retuned to shore.
The three subjects from the overturned Catamaran had removed themselves from the water by swimming to a nearby dock prior to the arrival of First Responders.
No injuries were reported. The United State Coast Guard and Department of Natural Resources Police are investigating.
