UPDATE 9/5/2025: Jonathan Samuel Steed age 24 of Fort Washington, Maryland, is facing charges after firing multiple shots into a victims apartment door following an argument.
Deputies first responded to the 2100 block of Crain Highway around 8:44 p.m. for a disturbance call.
The resident told police that a male subject had attempted to break into the victims apartment and threatened to kill the victim.
Court documents state that police located the man outside of the apartment and identified him as Jonathan Steed, who was later released from the scene after telling officers he was looking to get a charger for his phone to get an Uber.
Just a few hours later, around 11:10 p.m., officers were called back to the same location for reports of gunfire. Deputies discovered several spent shell casings and multiple bullet holes in the door of the same victims apartment.
The victim told investigators she had met Steed on a dating application and had been drinking with him earlier that evening. The two argued over sex and the fact that Steed had a firearm inside her apartment. After Steed left, the victim reported hearing gunshots but did not see who fired them. While officers were speaking with her, Steed called the victims phone and said he was returning to the area.
Deputies soon observed Steed walking out of Tobacco Vape, located in the 2100 block of Crain Highway, and took him into custody. He was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound to his hand.
Investigators recovered a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun and a magazine with live rounds in the grass behind the vape shop. Additional blood was found inside the store. Employees told deputies Steed had come into the business several times earlier that night, behaving erratically, making sexual advances toward them, and claiming a woman across the street was “working with the feds” and that he planned to kill her. At one point, Steed was overheard telling someone on the phone he had just “made a block hot” by shooting into a door.
Steed was flown to the Union Memorial Hospital for treatment of his gunshot wound.
Before transport, Steed had made a comment to a Charles County Sheriff’s Deputy about killing someone and laughed about it. Steed was noted to be extremely disorderly during the incident.
A live Smith & Wesson .40 caliber round was also found in Steed’s pocket.
Steed remains to be held on a no bond status and has been charged with the following.
- ASSAULT FIRST DEGREE
- ASSAULT SECOND DEGREE
- RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT
- LOADED HANDGUN ON PERSON
- HANDGUN ON PERSON
- MAL DEST PROP/VALU < $1,000

According to court records, Steed was sentenced to 3 years in jail by Judge Nicholas E. Rattal on November 9th, 2023, for Loaded Handgun on Person. All but 220 days were suspended. Steed was also convicted in 2019 for Burglary 4th Degree. That entire sentence was also non-existent since it was suspended by Judge Karen H. Mason.
On Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at approximately 11:40 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the parking lot of the Tobacco King and Vape located at 2160 Crain Highway in Waldorf, for the reporting self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The 911 caller reported a male came into the store and was acting weird, when the male left the business he entered the parking lot and shot himself.
