One Pet Killed, Second Missing After Fire at Lexington Park Motel; Deputy State Fire Marshals Investigating

On Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:22 a.m., firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the A&E Motel located at 21646 Great Mills Road in Lexington Park, for the reported commercial structure fire.

911 callers reported a mattress was on fire and spreading.

Firefighters from Bay District and NAS Patuxent River arrived on the scene within minutes of dispatch to find smoke showing from room 124.

Crews made entry to find a mattress smoldering with extensions to clothing and other items.

Firefighters faced difficulties due to hoarding conditions in the confined room, but extinguished the fire within 15 minutes.

While checking for extensions and completing searches of the involved and adjoining rooms, one cat was located deceased within the involved room. A second cat is missing.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

Deputy State Fire Marshals responded to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.

The investigation is ongoing and updates will be provided when they became available. This is the second fire of the day our First Responders and Fire Marshals responded to.
