An estimated 600 people gathered in St. Mary’s County, and over 200 in La Plata on Saturday, March 28, 2026, as part of the nationwide “No Kings” protest movement, far exceeding the fewer than 200 participants who had registered in advance.
Under clear skies and warm weather, attendees lined the area with signs, music, and chants, creating what many described as a positive and energized atmosphere.
Participants arrived in themed attire, including inflatable costumes and Handmaids outfits, while others brought dogs wearing message-covered bandannas. Passing motorists frequently signaled support by honking as they drove by.
The local rally was one of more than 3,300 coordinated demonstrations held across the United States and internationally, with organizers estimating total participation at over 8 million people. A significant portion of the events—roughly two-thirds—took place outside major metropolitan areas, reflecting growing engagement in smaller communities.
The demonstrations marked what organizers described as one of the largest single-day protest movements in U.S. history.
