Dameatric Malique Scott, 35, of Loveville, entered an Alford plea to second-degree assault in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court on March 18, 2026, in connection with an April 26, 2025 incident in Leonardtown, according to court records.
The case originated in the District Court for St. Mary’s County after charges were filed on May 12, 2025, and was later transferred to Circuit Court when a jury trial was requested.
Charging documents state the incident occurred on Washington Street in Leonardtown and involved two adult male victims.
According to the statement of charges, one adult male victim sustained facial injuries, including lacerations, a fractured eye socket, and a possible concussion, while the second adult male victim suffered a cut lip, a nasal fracture, and bruising under both eyes.
Court documents say a deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was on foot patrol in Leonardtown Square shortly after midnight when a disturbance was overheard. Both adult male victims were later treated at MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for their injuries.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage at a nearby pub and obtained a receipt bearing Scott’s name. The filing states Scott later admitted to being involved in an altercation outside the the establishment. The deputy wrote that Scott reported two individuals were upset because he had been sitting on their friend’s car, and that a broken beer bottle led to the confrontation.
Court records further state the deputy observed a cut on Scott’s hand that appeared consistent with striking another person. The deputy wrote that, based on witness statements and evidence, Scott “was the aggressor who threw the first punch and assaulted the victims, leaving them with severe injuries.”
District Court proceedings included a preliminary inquiry scheduled for June 20, 2025, which was waived. Multiple trial dates were later reset or postponed before the case moved to Circuit Court on September 2, 2025.
In Circuit Court, several hearings and jury trial dates were postponed or cancelled before the March 18, 2026 hearing, when Scott entered the Alford plea. A pre-sentence investigation was ordered the same day, and the case remains open pending further proceedings.
An Alford plea allows a defendant to accept a conviction without admitting guilt while acknowledging that sufficient evidence exists for a conviction.
