UPDATE: Maryland State Trooper Flown to Trauma Center After Motor Vehicle Collision in Lexington Park

On Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at approximately 11:45 a.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of Hermanville Road and Piper Court in Lexington Park, for the reported motor vehicle collision with injuries and HAZMAT.

Maryland State Police advised one of their Troopers was involved, with diesel fuel actively leaking from a second involved vehicle.

Firefighters from Bay District and NAS Patuxent River responded to the scene to find a T-bone style collision involving a marked Maryland State Police cruiser and a METCOM truck and trailer, which contained approximately 500 gallons of diesel fuel that was actively leaking into the grass ditch.

NAS Patuxent River HAZMAT 13 and Engine 132 utilized their equipment to secure and stop the leaking tank.

After further consultation, EMS requested aviation to transport the Trooper to an area trauma center.

The adult male was transported to the Maryland State Police Aviation Hangar at the St. Mary’s County Airport, where Trooper 7 transported the Trooper to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center.

The operator/occupants of the METCOM vehicle denied transport.
