James Robert Anderson Jr., 44, of Hollywood
James Robert Anderson Jr., 44, of Hollywood, is facing a misdemeanor theft charge following an alleged incident at a retail store in California, Maryland, according to court documents.
Anderson is charged with theft between $100 and under $1,500 stemming from an incident reported on March 21, 2026, on First Colony Way in California.
According to charging documents filed by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Erik Fleenor responded to the store for a reported theft in progress. The deputy wrote that a loss prevention manager “flagged me down in the parking lot” and reported observing a subject “concealing sports trading cards” inside the store.
The loss prevention manager continued to monitor the individual while inside the store and maintained communication with the deputy by phone. According to the statement, the suspect exited the store pushing a cart that appeared to contain only a jacket.
Deputy Fleenor reported identifying the individual as Anderson and asked about the items. According to the document, “when asked Defendant Anderson where the trading cards were, he lifted his jacket out of the cart, revealing $210.86 worth of sports trading cards.”
Court records state that Anderson allegedly admitted to taking the items without paying, and the merchandise was recovered and returned to the store.
Investigators also reviewed surveillance footage. The deputy wrote that the video showed Anderson “walking throughout the store,” placing trading cards into a shopping cart and “placing his jacket over them to conceal them.” The footage reportedly shows him passing all points of sale, sitting briefly near the exit, and then leaving the store with the unpaid items.
The charge was formally filed on March 31, 2026, and a criminal summons was issued. Anderson is scheduled to appear for a preliminary inquiry on May 15, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in St. Mary’s District Court.
The case remains open.
