UPDATE: Police Investigating Crash in Waldorf That Killed 68-Year-Old Virginia Man

UPDATE on 4/9/2026 @ 4:00 p.m: On April 8, 2026, at 6 p.m., officers responded to 155 St. Patrick’s Drive in Waldorf for the report of a motor vehicle crash.

A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of a gray Honda SUV had exited a car wash and was in the far-right acceleration lane when the driver of a white Genesis SUV, reportedly traveling at a high rate of speed, struck the Honda SUV in the rear causing both vehicles to spin into the median.

The front seat passenger in the Honda SUV was pronounced deceased on the scene. He was later identified as Godfrey Derlonard Scarlett, age 68, of Virginia.

The driver of the Honda SUV, a 63-year-old female from Waldorf, was flown to a hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of the Genesis SUV, a 50-year-old male of Waldorf, was transported by ground to a hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening.

UPDATE on 4/9/2026: Traffic delays are expected this morning in the area of Saint Patrick’s Drive, starting from Western Pkwy to just past the Flagship car wash so that our Traffic Ops team can take photos and measurements relating to a fatal car crash that occurred last night in that area.

They will start at 9:30 am and hope to finish by 10 am or sooner. They will attempt to divert traffic if necessary. Thank you for your patience.

A press release will be issued later this morning with details about the crash.

UPDATE @ 6:38 P.M.: EMS has pronounced one victim deceased on the scene.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 2 landed on the scene to transport a 63-year-old female to an area trauma center.

Police remain on the scene to investigate the collision.

Updates will be provided when they become available.

UPDATE @ 6:30 P.M.: Helicopter is still responding to transport an adult female patient, with flight medics being advised EMS are currently performing CPR on the first patient.

EMS requesting an ambulance for a third patient with non-life-threatening/minor injuries.

4/8/2026: On Wednesday, April 8, 2026, at approximately 6:03 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the intersection of St. Patricks Drive and the Flagship Carwash in Waldorf, for the serious motor vehicle collision.

Crews arrived on the scene to find a multi-vehicle collision and confirmed two patients were trapped.

A helicopter is being launched to land at the St. Charles Towne Center.

Firefighters remain operating on the scene. Avoid the area and expect extended delays.
