Traffic Advisory Issued for Sunday, April 26, for Southern Maryland Fireman’s Parade in Solomons

April 24, 2026

The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office has issued a traffic advisory ahead of the Southern Maryland Fireman’s Parade scheduled for Sunday, April 26, 2026, on Solomons Island.

The parade is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. and conclude at approximately 2:00 p.m., with officials warning of significant vehicle congestion and heavy pedestrian traffic throughout the area.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, normal traffic flow will continue on Solomons Island until around noon. At that time, all vehicular access onto the island, including access to MD Route 4 on the island, will be shut down to allow the parade to proceed northbound from the area near the Tiki Bar.

Several traffic restrictions and detours will be in place during the event:

  • The exit ramp from northbound MD Route 4 onto Solomons Island will be closed.
  • All southbound traffic on H.G. Trueman Road near Roy Rogers will be turned around and redirected northbound onto MD Route 4.
  • Vehicles exiting the Solomons boat ramp or from beneath the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge will be required to turn left only and proceed northbound off the island. Access to MD Route 4 at that intersection will become intermittent as the parade progresses.
  • Traffic from Lore Road and nearby businesses, including the car wash and urgent care, will be required to turn right only and head northbound off the island. Access to those businesses will remain available via the Roy Rogers entrance.
  • The Solomons boat ramp will remain accessible via the southbound MD Route 4 access ramp.

Officials are urging motorists to plan ahead by arriving early, avoiding the area if possible, or using alternate routes. Drivers should also expect delays and allow extra travel time during the event.

The annual parade, hosted by the Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad and Fire Department, is expected to draw large crowds to the waterfront community.
