Chanel Amber Mnych, 34, of California, is facing a charge of second-degree assault following a reported domestic incident on April 24, 2026, in St. Mary’s County.
According to court documents, deputies with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to Leyland Street in California for a reported domestic assault. The adult male victim told deputies he had been assaulted by Mnych, described as his girlfriend. He said the incident followed an argument the night before and continued into the early morning hours.
The victim reported that after both individuals went to sleep, an interaction led to an argument, during which Mnych allegedly began “yelling and screaming at him to stop yelling and not wake her children up.” He told deputies that as he sat on the edge of the bed, Mnych grabbed him by his hair and pulled him back onto the bed. He further stated that “one of his dreads was ripped out” and that he was later attacked again, resulting in visible scratches to his arms, shoulder, neck, and face.
Mnych also provided a statement to deputies, saying the situation began earlier that morning when the victim woke up and began yelling. She stated she contacted the victim’s mother to help get him to leave the home. Mnych told deputies the victim pulled her hair, and she was attempting to get him off of her, which she said may have caused his injuries.
The victim’s mother told deputies that during a phone call, her son “couldn’t get a word in due to the defendant yelling and screaming the whole time” and that he only said “we will be ok” before ending the call.
Deputies determined Mnych to be the primary aggressor and placed her under arrest. She was later transported for processing and formally charged with second-degree assault, which carries a potential penalty of up to 10 years in jail and a $2,500 fine.
During her initial court appearance, Mnych waived her right to an attorney for that hearing and was released on her own recognizance. As part of her release conditions, she was ordered not to engage in criminal activity, to appear in court as required, and to have no contact involving abuse or threats toward the victim.
