Barry Jeremiah Parran, 58, of Prince Frederick
Barry Jeremiah Parran, 58, of Prince Frederick, faces multiple criminal and traffic charges after Calvert County deputies responded to a report of a driver slumped over inside a vehicle on Arthur King Road during the early morning hours of May 2, 2026.
According to charging documents filed in the District Court for Calvert County, deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 1:23 a.m. to the area of Arthur King Road and Dares Beach Road for a report of an individual unconscious inside a vehicle stopped in the roadway. A deputy reported finding a gray 2008 GMC Yukon stopped in the middle of Arthur King Road near Arthur King Road in Prince Frederick.
Court documents state the deputy found Parran asleep in the driver’s seat and had to make multiple attempts to wake him. The deputy wrote that once Parran awoke, he appeared to have slurred speech, glassy eyes, and a strong odor of alcohol coming from his person.
According to the statement of probable cause, when asked how much alcohol he had consumed, Parran allegedly replied, “A very good amount.” Deputies also reported that Parran was unable to keep his balance after exiting the vehicle and swayed back and forth while standing.
The deputy stated that Parran repeatedly said he needed to “Piss” when asked whether he would submit to standardized field sobriety testing. Court records allege Parran attempted to walk away during the encounter, and deputies interpreted his actions as a refusal to participate in the tests before placing him under arrest.
During a search following the arrest, deputies reported finding a torn plastic bag containing a white powdery substance in Parran’s pocket. Investigators alleged the substance was cocaine and described the bag as a type commonly used to carry narcotics.
Charging documents further state Parran later refused a breath test after deputies read him the DR-15 Advice of Rights. Deputies also reported that the keys to the GMC Yukon were found in the ignition while the vehicle was searched.
Parran was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, negligent driving, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while impaired by a controlled dangerous substance, driving while impaired by drugs and alcohol, displaying expired registration plates, operating a vehicle without current registration tabs, and driving without a license.
Court records indicate deputies noted Parran had prior driving under the influence charges dating back to 2005, including cases in 2016, 2024, and March 2026.
Following his arrest, Parran was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Initial appearance records show a judicial officer ordered him held without bond, citing the nature of the charges, the evidence presented, and a prior history of failure to appear in court.
A bail review hearing was held on May 4, 2026, and the hold without bond status remained in place, according to court records.
