Woman Ejected, Three Young Children Transported to Children’s Center After La Plata Crash

On Saturday, May 9, 2026, at approximately 8:27 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of Mitchell Road and Durham Court in La Plata, for the automated crash notification with unknown injuries.

Dispatchers advised they received an automated iPhone crash notification and could hear multiple babies crying in the background before the 911 call disconnected.

La Plata VFD quickly responded and arrived on the scene within 6 minutes to find a two vehicle collision with one into a ditch.

Firefighters began extrication and removed one patient within 10 minutes of arrival, and reported one adult female was ejected, and three children in one vehicle were unrestrained and needing evaluation.

EMS requested multiple helicopters a short time later.

Maryland State Police Aviation Command Troopers 2 and Trooper 7 responded and landed nearby.

Flight medics from Trooper 2 were advised a female, approximately 30-years-old, was intoxicated/impaired and ejected from the vehicle. She was located laying in a ravine. She was transported to an area trauma center.

Flight medics from Trooper 7 was advised they were responding to transport two children, one approximately 2 months old, and 2-years-old. Both were flown to the Children’s National Hospital.

A third child, approximately 8-years-old, was transported by ambulance to the Children’s National Hospital while accompanied by a family member.

Two additional patients were evaluated on the scene, however, it is unknown if they were transported or signed care refusal forms on the scene.

Police are investigating the crash. Charges are currently pending and further updates will be provided when they become available.
