Waldorf Woman Charged in $25K-to-$100K Theft Scheme Involving Vulnerable Adult

May 15, 2026

Shanice B. Scott, 34, of Waldorf, is facing charges in Charles County District Court for felony theft scheme of $25,000 to less than $100,000, misdemeanor vulnerable adult abuse by a custodian, and misdemeanor malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more, according to court documents. The case was filed on May 10, 2026, and remains open.

Court records say the allegations involve a vulnerable adult female victim at a home in White Plains. The charging document alleges that between December 24, 2024, and March 31, 2025, Scott stole U.S. currency valued at at least $25,000 but less than $100,000 as part of one continuing theft scheme. The documents also allege that between January 5, 2025, and January 11, 2025, Scott caused neglect of the vulnerable adult while acting as a caregiver with temporary care of her.

A third charge alleges that sometime in December 2024, Scott willfully and maliciously damaged a front door belonging to the vulnerable adult female victim at the White Plains home. Court documents list the value of the property damage at $1,000 or more.

The adult male complainant wrote in an application for charges that Scott committed “Injury to An Elderly Individual” through “Financial exploitation, Senior Abuse, Neglect, and Isolation.” The complainant said unpaid utility bills were attached to the application, including SMECO, Washington Gas and Charles County utility bills, and alleged those debts occurred during the same period when bank statements showed debit card transactions attributed to Scott.

According to the application, the complainant alleged that the vulnerable adult female victim’s pension and Social Security deposits were used by Scott for Scott’s personal benefit instead of being used to pay the victim’s delinquent debts. The complainant also alleged that Scott made numerous debit card withdrawals and cash withdrawals from Citibank checking accounts and used access to the victim’s personal information, including a PIN and passwords.

The complainant further alleged that the vulnerable adult female victim had suffered memory loss for more than five years and was unable to manage her finances or make decisions about her affairs. In the written application, the complainant stated that Scott “has defrauded” the victim of at least $25,000 in Social Security and pension funds, and alleged Scott was responsible for a $3,100 front door replacement cost.

Court documents also state that a criminal summons was issued on May 10, 2026. Scott is scheduled for a preliminary inquiry at 9 a.m. on June 22, 2026, in Courtroom 2 at Charles District Court. The summons was issued for service through the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
