Joel Harold Notman, 31, of Lexington Park
Joel Harold Notman, 31, of Lexington Park, has been charged in St. Mary’s County District Court with one misdemeanor count of violating a protective order after an alleged disturbance on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park on May 14, 2026.
According to charging documents filed by Deputy Matthew Craig of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at about 12:20 a.m. on May 14, 2026, to a report of a disturbance at a residence on Great Mills Road in Lexington Park. The alleged victim is identified in court records as Notman’s roommate, but the person’s name is being withheld because they are listed as a victim in the case.
The statement of charges alleges that Notman failed to comply with a final protective order dated February 25, 2026. Court documents state the order barred Notman from abusing or threatening to abuse the protected person. The charge alleges Notman violated that order by “threatening to abuse” the victim.
In the statement of probable cause, the victim told the deputy that Notman had threatened to “beat his ass.” Notman allegedly identified himself to the deputy and said the victim had thrown a drink at him, striking him in the right eye. When asked whether he had threatened the victim, Notman allegedly stated that “he did because [the victim] had assaulted him,” according to court documents.
The charge summary lists the offense as a violation of Maryland Family Law Section 4-509. The listed penalty in the court document is up to 90 days and/or a $1,000 fine.
Notman initially appeared before a judicial officer on May 14, 2026. Court records state that he appeared without an attorney and waived an attorney for that initial appearance only. He was first ordered held without bond. A bail review was held on May 15, 2026, and court scheduling records show he was later released on his own recognizance, meaning he was released without having to post money, with conditions including that he not engage in criminal activity and appear in court when required.
A trial is scheduled for June 29, 2026, at 1 p.m. in Courtroom 1 at St. Mary’s District Court in Leonardtown. Notman is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
