On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at approximately 6:33 p.m., firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the 13000 block of Sankston Place in Newburg, for the reported hazardous materials investigation with injuries.
911 callers reported a 12-year-old male was conscious alert and breathing after spilling acid on his face.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to confirm nothing evident from the residence and began investigating.
Crews found an approximate “1 gallon jug of acid” had broken and spilled over the victims entire face/body. HAZMAT techs responded to the scene had identified the substance and requested a helicopter after consulting with the Children’s National Hospital and Poison Control.
Flight medics were advised the patient was attempting to reach an item on a shelf when the container filled with the unidentified acid fell and broke, resulting in the victim suffering first degree burns to 10% of his body including his face, chest and leg.
The victim was conscious alert and breathing with a patent airway the entire time. The patient was treated in a decontamination process before being transported.
U.S. Park Police Eagle 1 landed nearby and transported the child to the Children’s National Hospital accompanied by a family member.
