Jarrett James Mitchell, 23, of Annapolis, with separate court filings listing no fixed address, is facing charges in three open Calvert County District Court criminal cases involving alleged incidents at the Calvert County Detention Center. Across the four Three cases, Mitchell is charged with three counts of malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000 and four counts of second-degree assault.

The earliest case, filed April 27, 2026, stems from an alleged incident on April 25, 2026. According to court documents filed by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched to a destruction of property call at the Calvert County Detention Center on Stafford Road in Barstow. The application states Mitchell was in a cell block at about 7:29 a.m. when he allegedly used a sheet to remove the end of a sprinkler head from the ceiling. The value of the damaged property was listed as $100.

In that April 25, 2026 case, Mitchell is charged with malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000. A criminal summons was issued April 27, 2026, and court records show the summons was served April 30, 2026. A trial date originally listed for June 15, 2026, was reset, and another trial date is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. in Calvert District Court.

A second case, filed May 18, 2026, stems from an alleged incident on May 18, 2026, at the Calvert County Detention Center on Stafford Road in Prince Frederick. According to court documents filed by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called at about 9:15 a.m. for a reported destruction of property incident inside the facility.

Charging documents allege Mitchell returned to his cell from recreation, defecated on the floor, picked up feces with his hands and spread it under the cell door and around the cell. The documents state feces was found on the walls, ceiling, door, drain, toilet, mattress, sheets and blanket. One adult correctional officer victim told the deputy the incident was “completely unprovoked,” according to the statement of probable cause.

Court documents allege four adult correctional officer victims asked Mitchell to leave the cell and that he complied at first before turning toward a wall in the booking area and wiping feces on the wall. When officers attempted to handcuff him, Mitchell allegedly resisted. The documents allege Mitchell wiped feces on two adult correctional officer victims and spit on two others before he was placed in court holding.

According to the statement of probable cause, security footage was reviewed and photos of the cell were taken and uploaded. The deputy wrote that he was told by one adult correctional officer victim that Mitchell said “he will continue to do the above.”

In that May 18, 2026 case, Mitchell is charged with one count of malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000 and four counts of second-degree assault. Court records show he had an initial appearance on May 19, 2026, waived an attorney for that appearance, and was released on personal recognizance with conditions that he not engage in criminal activity and appear in court when notified. A trial is scheduled for June 18, 2026, at 1 p.m. in Calvert District Court.

A third case, filed May 22, 2026, involves a separate alleged incident on May 16, 2026, also at the Calvert County Detention Center on Stafford Road in Prince Frederick. In that case, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office alleges Mitchell damaged or caused the replacement of facility property while in a housing unit dayroom.

According to the application for statement of charges, correctional deputies reported that Mitchell was out of his cell in a housing unit when he began “acting out and destroying items inside the dayroom and spreading feces over the dayroom.” The listed damaged or replaced items included a mop wringer, sprinkler head, scrub brushes, a push broom, mop heads, sweep brooms and jumpsuits. The total was listed as $383.

For that May 16, 2026 incident, Mitchell is charged with malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000. A criminal summons was issued May 22, 2026, and a preliminary inquiry is scheduled for July 6, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in Calvert District Court.
