Junior Fire Camp Returning to Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department in August 2026

May 26, 2026

The Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department will host its Junior Fire Camp from Monday, August 3, 2026, through Friday, August 7, 2026.

The five-day camp will run daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department, located at 200 Calvert Beach Road, St. Leonard, MD 20685.

The camp is open to students entering 6th through 8th grade for the 2026–2027 school year.

Junior Fire Camp gives middle school students the opportunity to spend five fun and exciting days learning about the job of a firefighter. Campers will take part in activities focused on water safety, first aid, CPR, rescue practices, live simulations, teamwork, responsibility, and more.

The program is designed to challenge participants, help them develop lifelong skills, learn the value of teamwork, and make new friends while gaining a better understanding of the fire service.

Parents and guardians should note that children attending the camp will need daily transportation to and from the fire department.

Applicants will be notified by email the week of June 23, 2026, as to whether their child has been accepted or placed on a waiting list.

If selected, parents or guardians must attend a mandatory orientation meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on June 30, 2026, at the Saint Leonard Volunteer Fire Department. Attendance at the orientation is required for the child to participate in camp.

At the conclusion of the orientation meeting, payment must be submitted by PayPal or check in the amount of $125 per child. Checks should be made payable to SLVFD, with “Fire Camp” written in the memo line.

For more information or questions, contact EMS Chief Michelle Weems or Firefighter Myers by email at [email protected] or by phone at 410-586-1713.
