Aja Nicole Somerville, 35, of Lexington Park, is charged with second-degree assault following an alleged domestic incident on May 17, 2026, according to District Court records filed in St. Mary’s County.

Somerville is accused of assaulting a minor female victim during an incident at a residence on Lexwood Court in Lexington Park. The charge is listed as “assault second degree,” a misdemeanor under Maryland law. The charging document lists the possible penalty as up to 10 years and/or a $2,500 fine.

According to the statement of probable cause filed by Deputy Dillon McDanile of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at about 6 p.m. on May 17, 2026. The document states that Somerville and the minor female victim, had a verbal dispute that became physical. The filing says both lived at the residence where the incident occurred.

The deputy wrote that Somerville went into the teen’s room and that “more words were exchanged.” The statement says the teen threw a jacket or pillow at Somerville, Somerville then “lunged” at the teen, and the teen swung at Somerville. The document states the minor female victim suffered injuries to her head and mouth area, was treated at the scene and was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital. Somerville was reported to have scratch marks on her right cheek and refused treatment, according to the filing.

Somerville appeared before a District Court commissioner on May 17, 2026. Court records show she waived an attorney for the initial appearance only and was later found eligible for representation by the Public Defender’s Office, which entered its appearance on May 20, 2026.

Somerville was released on a $1,500 unsecured personal bond. As conditions of release, the court ordered her to appear in court, avoid criminal conduct, not intimidate the 16-year-old victim/witness and not abuse or threaten to abuse the minor female victim.
