Janet Frances Small, 93, a 30-year resident of Waldorf, Maryland, peacefully departed this life on May 15, 2026.
Born on August 13, 1932, in Cranford, New Jersey, Janet was the beloved daughter of Edward and Katherine Lindsay. She graduated from Wheaton College and went on to build a distinguished career as an editor for Vitro Corporation, where her professionalism, attention to detail, and dedication were highly respected.
Janet married Pastor Gerald George Small, and together they shared 72 years of loving marriage, building a life grounded in faith, devotion, and family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Christopher Blessing.
She leaves to cherish her memory her six children: David Small (Chari); Priscilla Ehrhart (Steve); Sharon Olup (Mike); Douglas Small (Vicki); Virginia Mongeon (Bruce); and Kristin Blessing (David). She also leaves behind 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, her brother, David Lindsay (Elaine), her sister-in-law, Barbara Rodgers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Janet will be remembered for her kindness, wisdom, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family and community.
Janet found joy in caring for others and creating beauty in everyday life. She enjoyed embroidery, knitting, flower arranging, baking, and reading. Her homemade cookies became a treasured tradition for family and friends.
Music and faith were central to Janet’s life. She sang in the church choir and played the piano. She faithfully supported missionaries for many years and was known as a mighty prayer warrior.
Janet also loved planning family vacations, decorating her home for the holidays, and creating cherished memories with her family.
A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Grace Church Waldorf, located at 13000 Zekiah Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601. A Celebration of Life service will follow at 3:00 PM, with a reception immediately afterward. The service will also be livestreamed through the church for those unable to attend in person.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Grace Church Waldorf Missions, 13000 Zekiah Drive, Waldorf, MD 20601, a ministry dear to Janet’s heart.
