Sommer Lee West, 40, of Prince Frederick
Sommer Lee West, 40, of Prince Frederick, has been charged in Calvert County with theft less than $100, theft of $100 to under $1,500, second-degree assault on a law enforcement officer, malicious destruction of property valued under $1,000, and making a false statement to an officer, according to District Court records. The case, filed May 21, 2026, remains open in District Court for Calvert County.
According to the statement of probable cause, a deputy with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded at about 9:28 a.m. on May 21, 2026, to Weis Market on Prince Frederick Boulevard in Prince Frederick for a reported theft that had just occurred. Dispatchers described the suspect as a petite white female wearing a turquoise hoodie and black slacks, with brunette hair tied in a bun. Deputies later located a woman matching that description walking through a nearby bank parking lot.
Court documents state that West was initially detained, but deputies did not find stolen merchandise on her person, and she was released from custody. A short time later, deputies found two grocery bags in a wooded area behind a nearby restaurant on Prince Frederick Boulevard. The items were taken back to the store and inventoried, with a reported total value of $107.65. Investigators also reported that security footage showed West entering the store without grocery bags, leaving with two grocery bags of unpaid items, and passing all points of sale without making a purchase.
Deputies later received another call reporting that a woman matching the suspect description was behind a business on Solomons Island Road in Prince Frederick. The caller reported that it appeared the woman was trying to put items into her pants. Deputies said they found West running south from the business and arrested her without incident.
After West was placed in the back of a marked patrol vehicle, court documents allege that she began spitting on the window and tried to spit on a deputy while the deputy was speaking with her. The deputy moved in time to avoid being struck by saliva, according to the charging documents. A “spit mask” was then placed over West’s head, and she was taken to the Calvert County Detention Center for booking and processing.
During transport, West allegedly made several statements toward law enforcement officers. Court documents quote West as saying she hoped officers would “get shot and die” and that she “prays twice a day” for the death of law enforcement officers. The arresting officer wrote that the events were recorded on an Axon body-worn camera.
At West’s initial appearance on May 21, 2026, a judicial officer set a $1,500 unsecured personal bond. Court records show the bond was posted the same day. Conditions of release include that West not engage in criminal conduct, appear in court when notified, complete an evaluation with Calvert Behavioral Health, and follow all recommendations.
The initial appearance report also states that West appeared without an attorney and waived an attorney for that hearing only. The court later found her eligible for the public defender, and the Calvert County Public Defender entered an appearance on May 22, 2026.
