Garfield Linden Northey, 50, of Lusby, has been charged in Charles County District Court with second-degree burglary, theft of $1,500 to under $25,000, and malicious destruction of property valued at $1,000 or more, according to court documents.
The charges stem from an alleged May 3, 2026, break-in at a Charles County yacht and country club, where court documents say golf equipment was stolen and an exterior door was damaged.
The charging documents list the stolen items as golf clubs and golf balls valued at approximately $5,313.89, with damage to the door estimated at about $3,000.
According to a statement of probable cause filed by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, an officer responded on May 4, 2026, after the burglary was reported. A pro shop manager told investigators, “While opening the shop in the morning, he noticed the front door was damaged and that items were stolen.”
Court documents say surveillance video showed a red truck arriving at the golf club earlier on May 3, 2026, and later moving under a carport with its headlights off.
Investigators wrote that a man appeared at the golf shop door at about 9:32 p.m., used a prying tool to force the door open, entered the shop, and left about four minutes later.
Investigators said they later identified Northey through Maryland vehicle records and located a red 2006 Honda Ridgeline registered to him. Court documents say officers observed a red Honda Ridgeline with dark aftermarket rims at his Lusby residence, matching a vehicle seen in surveillance footage.
On May 19, 2026, investigators executed a search warrant at Northey’s residence on Big Sandy Run Road in Lusby. According to court documents, detectives found the stolen golf clubs and a pry bar during the search. Northey was taken to a Charles County Sheriff’s Office station for an interview, where investigators said he was read his rights and agreed to speak.
The court filing says Northey “confessed to the burglary and stealing the golf clubs and golf balls” and stated “he has been depressed and made bad decision.”
Northey appeared before a District Court commissioner on May 19, 2026. Court records show he was released on personal recognizance with required conditions, including that he appear in court, not engage in criminal conduct, and not enter or be found near the involved club.
