Kijah Renee Powers, 22, of Lanham, has been charged in Charles County District Court with misdemeanor theft of property valued at $100 to under $1,500 after court documents say she was accused of taking merchandise from Target on Western Parkway in Waldorf on May 30, 2026.

According to the statement of probable cause, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office officer responded at approximately 6 p.m. on May 30, 2026, to Target on Western Parkway in Waldorf for a reported theft. The charging document states that the alleged incident involved merchandise valued at $252.30.

Court documents state that a loss prevention employee told the officer she observed Powers on store security cameras. The employee stated she saw Powers “walk through the store concealing store items in a large plastic bag she had prior to her arrival.” The employee also stated that Powers went through a self-checkout line and paid for only three of several items before allegedly attempting to leave with unpaid merchandise.

The probable cause statement says the employee told the officer that Powers “walked pass all points of sale, and attempted to leave the store.” The document further states that store loss prevention employees stopped Powers and escorted her to the loss prevention office at approximately 5:50 p.m.

The officer wrote that the loss prevention employee provided an itemized list of unpaid merchandise recovered from Powers, with the list totaling $252.30. Court documents say Powers identified herself as Kijah Powers, and her identity was confirmed through a Maryland driver’s license.

Powers was placed under arrest and transported to the Charles County Detention Center to be charged, according to the probable cause statement. The charge summary lists the alleged offense time as 8:07 p.m. on May 30, 2026, and identifies the charge as theft: $100 to under $1,500, a misdemeanor.

At her initial appearance on May 30, 2026, Powers waived an attorney for that hearing only, according to the initial appearance report. The court released her on personal recognizance with no bail amount set. Conditions of release include that she not engage in criminal conduct, appear in court when notified, and not enter or be found near the store on Western Parkway.
