Jamanti Malik Battles, 30, of Waldorf
Jamanti Malik Battles, 30, of Waldorf, has been charged with theft less than $100, possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis, possession of drug paraphernalia, second-degree assault and trespassing on private property after an alleged dispute at a Waldorf residence on June 6, 2026.
According to allegations filed in the case, a Charles County Sheriff’s Office officer responded at about 5:45 p.m. to a home on Eutaw Forest Drive in Waldorf for a reported domestic complaint. An adult female victim told the officer that Battles, her son, had locked her out of the residence and was refusing to leave. She said Battles did not live at the home, was homeless, and had been allowed there to shower and temporarily use the facilities.
The adult female victim told investigators that she and Battles became involved in a verbal argument inside the home before the situation allegedly became physical. She reported that Battles grabbed her by both arms and shoved her out of the residence, causing injury to her right knee and left elbow. The officer noted that the woman had trouble walking afterward and complained of those injuries. She also said Battles then locked the door, preventing her from getting back inside, and she went to a neighbor’s home to call 911.
When deputies arrived, they allegedly tried several times to communicate with Battles and ask him to come to the door. Officers reported seeing him through the back door sitting on a couch in the living room. According to the allegations, Battles acknowledged officers were there but repeatedly waved them away and refused to speak with them.
The adult female victim gave officers permission to enter the home and provided the access code to the front door, according to the filing. Once inside, officers found Battles still seated on the couch. The woman then told him, in the presence of officers, that he was no longer permitted to be at the residence and that he would be trespassing if he did not leave.
Officers said Battles was given multiple opportunities to gather his belongings and leave voluntarily. He eventually went upstairs, collected his belongings and began walking toward the exit. As officers followed him, he allegedly became belligerent and yelled for officers to “stop trespassing on his mother’s property.”
The filing states that Battles exited through the rear door, but then allegedly walked back toward the doorway in an aggressive manner after being told it was time to leave the property. A brief physical struggle followed, and officers placed him into custody.
During a search after the arrest, an officer reported finding a used glass smoking device in Battles’ front right pants pocket and Swisher Sweets cigars in his left pocket. Investigators alleged the smoking device was used to smoke crack cocaine and would contain crack cocaine residue. The cigars were later reported to belong to the adult female victim and had an estimated value of $1, according to the allegations.
Battles had an initial appearance on June 7, 2026, and was released on personal recognizance. Conditions of release include that he not engage in criminal activity and appear in court when required. A trial is scheduled for July 21, 2026, at 9 a.m. in Charles County District Court.
