Carole Ann Shellman, 88, of Mechanicsville, Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2026, at her home surrounded by the love of her family.

Born on September 11, 1937, in Toledo, Ohio, Carole was the daughter of the late James Harding and Ruth Ann Bristow. She grew up in Ohio and later made her home in several places throughout her life, before settling in Maryland a few short months ago.

On December 20, 1958, Carole married the love of her life, Gary Edson Shellman, in Toledo, Ohio. Together they shared more than six decades of marriage, building a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.

Carole devoted her professional life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree and spent many years serving patients with compassion, skill, and dedication. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her career and touched everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.

A woman of strong faith, Carole was a Protestant and attended North Presbyterian Church in Elmira, New York. She found joy in sewing, vegetable gardening, and canning. She was also very family oriented and enjoyed any simple moment with her grandkids.

Carole is survived by her devoted husband, Gary Edson Shellman; her son, Gary Shellman (Cheryl); her daughter, Denise Shellman; her sister, Frances Harding; five grandchildren, Richard Penecale, Kristal Paskus, Tyler Shellman, Kayla Shellman, and Amanda Shellman; and six great-grandchildren, Alex Paskus, Sophia Paskus, Joey Paskus, Elaina Shellman, Leah Currie, and Madelyn Currie. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members, friends, and former colleagues who will miss her dearly.

In addition to her parents, Carole was preceded in death by her son, Jeffrey Scott Shellman; and her brothers, Brian Harding, Donald Harding, and Robert Harding.

Carole will be remembered for her kind heart, unwavering faith, dedication to her family, and the care she showed to everyone she met. Her warmth, wisdom, and loving presence created a lasting impact on all who knew her.
