Ross Merritt “Roscoe” Owens, 67, of Leonardtown, MD, passed away on June 13, 2026, at his home, with his loving family by his side, after a battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
He was born on October 4, 1958, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Charles Benjamin Owens and Julie Mae (nee: Wilson) Owens. He is a lifelong resident of St. Mary’s County, growing up and spending most of his time on the farm with the Trossbach Family of which he would become a life member of.
He is a 1976 graduate of Lackey High School. On October 21, 1978, he married the love of his life, Linda Teresa Trossbach, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Hollywood, MD. Together they celebrated over 47 wonderful years of marriage. He was a man of many trades and skills from electronics repair to operating and repairing heavy equipment, managing mining operations, driving trucks, fueling aircraft, and supporting contractor operations on Pax River. Ross loved all things mechanical and forever tinkered with cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, clocks, and guns. He owned hundreds of different vehicles throughout his life and it was hard to say what he would have next. His 1951 “Old A” John Deere Tractor was his favorite addition as he spent many an hour farming with that tractor in his childhood and meticulously maintaining it. Full of wisdom and laughter, he always had a great saying to pass on to everyone he met.
In addition to his beloved wife, Linda, Ross is also survived by his children, Melinda Ann Cox (Robert) of Leonardtown, MD, and Jason Matthew Owens (Kimberly) of Leonardtown, MD; his grandchildren: Gillian Cummings, Jeremy Cox, and Ethan Cox; siblings: C. Gilbert Owens (Nancy), Lynn O’Brien (Joe), and Dwight Owens (Mary). In addition to his parents, he is also preceded in death by his siblings: Lois Jeanette Abell, Mark Owens, and Reed Owens.
Family will receive friends for Ross’ Life Celebration on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a Prayer Service held at 7:00 p.m., at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Road, Leonardtown, MD 20650. Interment will be private.
