
UPDATE 6/24/2026: The law enforcement investigation at Point Lookout State Park concluded.
No injuries were reported. The subject has been safely located.

We thank the public for their cooperation and patience while the precautionary park closure and investigation were conducted.
Normal park operations are expected to resume today, June 25, 2o26.
6/24/26 3:18 p.m., Police Activity – Point Lookout State Park – The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is currently on scene at Point Lookout State Park.
As a precaution, people are being asked to leave the park, and the park will be closed while deputies conduct a welfare check involving an individual who may be in possession of a handgun.
Additional law enforcement and public safety partners are assisting with the response.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice. If you have any information, witnessed any suspicious activity at the park today, or have information that may assist investigators, please call the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office at 301-475-8008.
Call 911 immediately if you observe an emergency situation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available
EMS is currently on standby for police incase needed.
