Junior Maldonado-Hernandez, 38, of Lexington Park, has been charged with sexual abuse of a minor, third-degree sex offense involving a child under 14, fourth-degree sex offense involving sexual contact, second-degree assault, and resisting or interfering with arrest after authorities say deputies were called to a reported disturbance at a Lexington Park home on June 21, 2026.

According to filings in St. Mary’s County District Court, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the home after an adult female victim reported that Maldonado-Hernandez had acted inappropriately toward a 10-year-old female child inside the residence.

Investigators wrote that the adult female victim told deputies she had become concerned about Maldonado-Hernandez’s behavior toward the child over the previous two weeks. She said he had been unusually affectionate and “excessively hugging” the child, and she described seeing him look at the child “lustfully,” according to the filing.

The adult female victim told deputies the incident happened while she, Maldonado-Hernandez and the child were in the living room assembling a baby crib. She said she went to a rear bedroom to change a baby’s diaper, then looked down the hallway and saw Maldonado-Hernandez kneeling near the couch where the child was sitting. Authorities allege the adult female victim reported seeing Maldonado-Hernandez kiss the child and rub her thighs before she ran into the living room and confronted him.

The adult female victim told investigators Maldonado-Hernandez fell to his knees and begged her not to call 911, according to the filing. Authorities allege he then tried to grab her cellphone while attempting to stop her from calling police and struck her on the right thigh. She reported pain, though the responding deputy wrote that no visible injuries were observed.

The juvenile female victim later spoke with deputies and appeared scared and nervous. Investigators wrote that the child said Maldonado-Hernandez had made her feel uncomfortable for the last couple of weeks.

When deputies spoke with Maldonado-Hernandez on the front porch, he denied the allegation. According to the filing, Maldonado-Hernandez said “he never kissed the victim” and told deputies he was “simply trying to blow debris out of her eye.” Investigators wrote that Maldonado-Hernandez was uncooperative for much of the investigation and ultimately refused to identify himself.

Authorities said the Criminal Investigative Division and Child Protective Services were notified. Maldonado-Hernandez was then placed under arrest, but deputies allege he resisted by refusing to sit in a marked patrol vehicle and kicking his legs out of the vehicle to stop the door from being closed. Investigators also wrote that Maldonado-Hernandez became concerned about his cellphone and a second cellphone he had with him during the arrest.

Maldonado-Hernandez was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center. At an initial appearance on June 23, 2026, he was ordered held without bond after a judicial officer found a reasonable likelihood that he posed a danger to the alleged victim, another person, or the community. He was also ordered not to intimidate, contact or harass the juvenile female victim and not to enter or go near the home in Lexington Park.

A bail review was held on June 24, 2026, and Maldonado-Hernandez remained held without bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 22, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court. Records show the St. Mary’s County Public Defender’s Office entered an appearance on his behalf.
