Aaron Ball Jr., 48, of Clinton, has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or crime of violence after police said he pointed a handgun at two people during a road rage incident in Waldorf on June 23, 2026.

According to Maryland State Police, Master Trooper M.J. Gursky was on patrol in Charles County at about 3:48 p.m. when the Charles County 911 center broadcast a lookout for a vehicle reportedly involved in a road rage incident. Police said the caller reported that a driver had pointed a handgun at them while traveling southbound on MD Route 5 in the area of Mirkwood Lane in Waldorf. The vehicle was described as a gray Lexus LS460.

A detective with the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division later spotted the Lexus traveling south on Mattawoman-Beantown Road and stopped it on MD Route 5 near Billingsley Road in Waldorf. When additional deputies arrived, the driver, identified as Ball, was ordered out of the vehicle. Police said a black handgun was visible between the driver’s seat and the center console, angled downward with the handle facing up toward the driver.

The handgun was identified as a blued and black .357-caliber Springfield Armory XP handgun, police said. Ball was detained, and the Maryland Highway Gun Violence Task Force was contacted before he was arrested and taken to the Maryland State Police La Plata Barrack for processing.

The two adult male victims later gave written statements to police at a Sunoco station on Old Leonardtown Road in Hughesville. They said they were traveling south when a dark-colored Lexus pulled up on the passenger side of their truck. According to the police account, they said the driver appeared to be looking at them, then later rolled down the front driver’s window and appeared to be yelling.

The Lexus allegedly dropped back and then pulled alongside the truck again. The victims told police the window was halfway down and the driver was pointing a black “squared off handgun” at them. One victim said the driver had his finger on the trigger and that he was looking down the barrel of the gun. He told police he quickly reclined his seat to conceal himself and was “in fear for his life” during the encounter. The other victim said he accelerated rapidly to get away.

A witness who was following behind the victims was contacted by phone and provided the Lexus registration information to 911, police said. The witness stayed behind both vehicles until deputies stopped the suspect vehicle.

Police said Ball was wearing a black hooded Mercedes-Benz sweatshirt when he was stopped, with the hood up and covering his head. At 6:45 p.m., Ball was given an opportunity to provide a written witness statement but declined, according to the report.

At an initial appearance on June 24, 2026, Ball was initially ordered held without bond after a judicial officer found a reasonable likelihood that he posed a danger to the alleged victims, others or the community. A later bail review was held the same day, and docket information indicates Ball was released from commitment and granted private home detention, with the home detention start date listed as June 25, 2026.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 15, 2026, in Charles District Court.
