Xavier James Holloway, 22, of Lusby, has been charged after Maryland State Police said a reported disturbance at a California hotel led to a foot chase late Saturday night.
Holloway is charged with obstructing and hindering, failure to obey a reasonable and lawful order, resisting or interfering with arrest, disorderly conduct, and three related traffic offenses alleging attempts by a driver to elude police by fleeing on foot. The charges stem from an incident reported on June 27, 2026, at the La Quinta Inn on Three Notch Road in California.
According to police, TFC Eckrich and Trooper Fortunato responded at about 11:18 p.m. for a report of disorderly conduct and a possible assault. Dispatchers advised that a verbal argument and assault had been reported on the second floor of the hotel.
When troopers arrived, a hotel worker directed them toward a suspect and said, “That’s him,” according to the allegations. Police said the person was later identified as Holloway.
The trooper reported seeing Holloway “aggressively yelling and waving his arms” at a hotel patron who was seated on a curb outside the business. Police said the behavior caused others in the parking lot to stop and look in Holloway’s direction, and that he was drawing attention and causing a disturbance.
As Holloway began walking away from the hotel toward nearby businesses, police said the trooper walked toward him and called out, “This is the Maryland State Police” and “Stop.” According to the report, Holloway looked back toward the trooper and then began sprinting away.
Police said Holloway was chased north on Route 235 and crossed both the northbound and southbound lanes before he stopped running. During the chase, troopers said Holloway was given multiple commands to stop but did not comply.
Holloway was taken into custody at about 11:27 p.m. Police said they later spoke with several witnesses on the hotel’s second floor, who reported that Holloway had been involved in a verbal disturbance in a room and in the hallway outside the room.
After his arrest, Holloway was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center pending a bond review. He was later released on personal recognizance, with conditions that he not engage in criminal activity and appear in court when required. A court date is scheduled for August 6, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court.
