Christine M. Gammon, 64, of Mechanicsville, has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance that was not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia after a June 19, 2026 traffic stop in Mechanicsville.

According to allegations filed in the case, a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy reported that the stop began at about 1:44 p.m. near North Sandgates Road and Ridge Road after a 2004 Ford Escape was observed exceeding the posted 40 mph speed limit. The driver was identified as Gammon after she presented a Maryland driver’s license.

While Gammon was removing her wallet, Sgt. D. Potter reported seeing a thick metal wire with suspected crack cocaine residue on it. Authorities said that as Gammon was directed to step out of the vehicle, a glass smoking device was seen inside her purse. During a search of the vehicle, deputies reported finding another glass smoking device concealed inside a rag in the purse, along with a baggie of suspected crack cocaine inside the center console.

The allegations list the substance as crack cocaine, described in the filing as a Schedule II controlled dangerous substance. Gammon was taken to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged in connection with the possession of the suspected cocaine and paraphernalia.

At her initial appearance later that evening, Gammon waived an attorney for that hearing only and was released on personal recognizance. Her release conditions require her to appear in court, not engage in criminal activity, and abstain from alcohol or the abusive use or possession of narcotic drugs or other controlled dangerous substances without a prescription.

A court date is scheduled for August 6, 2026, at 1 p.m. in St. Mary’s District Court in Leonardtown. Gammon is listed as represented by the St. Mary’s County Public Defender’s Office.
