Rose A. Jones, 44, of Lusby, is facing misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance other than cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia following a traffic stop in St. Mary’s County on June 23, 2026.

According to charging documents, a deputy with the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling near Norris Road and Towey Court in Great Mills when a white Hyundai Sonata was stopped after the vehicle was observed displaying only a rear registration plate. The traffic stop took place near Chancellors Run Road and Belvoir Road in California on the morning of June 23, 2026.

Authorities said the front-seat passenger was identified as Douglas Bernard Mason, 41, of Valley Lee, who had outstanding arrest warrants. After confirming the warrants, deputies arrested Mason. During a search, deputies reported finding a glass smoking device containing burned residue suspected to be crack cocaine, along with two suspected buprenorphine (Suboxone) strips for which Mason allegedly said he did not have a prescription.

According to investigators, before deputies searched Jones, she told the deputy that “she had a smoking device inside of [a] cigarette carton that was stored inside of her bra.” Deputies reported recovering a glass smoking device containing burned residue suspected to be crack cocaine from inside the cigarette carton.

Investigators further alleged that Jones removed a cell phone battery from her bra, “advising that it contained crack cocaine.” The deputy wrote that the battery was actually a decoy container with a screw-off cap and contained a loose rock-like substance suspected to be crack cocaine. Based on the deputy’s training and experience, the investigation concluded that Jones possessed suspected crack cocaine and related drug paraphernalia. She was then arrested and transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center.

Jones made an initial appearance on June 24, 2026. She was released after posting a $300 unsecured personal bond and was ordered to appear for trial on Aug. 10, 2026, in St. Mary’s District Court. As conditions of her release, she was ordered to appear for future court proceedings, refrain from criminal activity, and not use alcohol or controlled dangerous substances without a valid prescription.

The charges remain allegations, and Jones is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
