UPDATE 7/9/2026: Devin Allen Miles, 23, of Lexington Park, has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault after investigators say a juvenile was stabbed during a large fight near the Solomons Island Gazebo during a fireworks event on July 5, 2026.

Deputies with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office were called to the area of the Solomons Island Gazebo at about 9:22 p.m. for a reported fight involving multiple people. The area was crowded because of a fireworks show that had been postponed from the night before. While deputies were responding, the Calvert County Control Center reported that someone armed with a knife had stabbed another person.

They found a male juvenile victim with multiple stab wounds to his stomach. Deputies began lifesaving measures, and the juvenile was later flown by medevac to MedStar Washington Hospital.

Investigators said several witnesses described seeing a tall, light-skinned Black male wearing a white shirt and dark pants run from the area where the stabbing occurred. Witnesses reported seeing the person enter a black Ford Explorer, which was then seen leaving the area. Because of heavy fireworks traffic, the vehicle did not get far before deputies stopped it.

Inside the vehicle, deputies identified the driver, Miles, a juvenile witness, and three small children. Deputies said Miles was shirtless when they made contact with him. From outside the vehicle, deputies reported seeing a white shirt that appeared to have blood stains on it, balled up and placed in a cup holder in the third row.

Investigators said deputies who had provided lifesaving aid to the juvenile victim also obtained a suspect description from him. The juvenile victim did not know the name of the person who stabbed him, according to the filings, but gave a description that investigators said was similar to Miles.

Detectives with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau interviewed multiple witnesses. One adult witness told investigators he was nearby when the fight broke out. The witness said he was at a parked truck when he saw a large crowd and believed a fight was about to start. He said he called 911 when the confrontation escalated and became physical.

The adult witness told investigators he saw a mixed male with shoulder-length dreadlocks who was extremely aggressive during the fight. Although he said he did not see anyone stab the juvenile victim, he reported seeing the male run toward St. Peter’s Episcopal Church. The witness said the male appeared frantic, was pacing near the church, and could be heard yelling that he needed to get away quickly. He then saw the person enter the Ford Explorer, according to the filings. The witness later identified Miles as the person he saw aggressively fighting and fleeing to the vehicle.

A second adult witness told investigators he was also nearby. The witness said he was standing near the same truck where the fight happened. He told investigators that a mixed male with shoulder-length dreadlocks was acting aggressively. The witness said he did not see who stabbed the juvenile victim, but he identified Miles as an aggressor in the fight.

A juvenile witness told investigators she had been attending the fireworks with a “cousin,” identified in the filings as another juvenile witness. She said that juvenile witness had been “jumped” by a group of unknown males, and that the two then planned to approach the group and confront them. When asked who stabbed the juvenile victim, she said she did not know.

Investigators said Miles became the prime suspect based on witness statements, the juvenile victim’s description, and his alleged behavior after the stabbing. Miles was taken to the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau for a recorded interview.

Before the interview, Miles was advised of his Miranda rights and said he understood them, according to investigators. He agreed to speak with detectives without a lawyer present and signed a rights waiver form. Investigators said Miles stated he was of sound mind and was not under the influence of anything at the time of the interview.

During the interview, Miles allegedly said he was in Solomons for the fireworks show with his “girl,” whom he did not name, and his children. Investigators said Miles later explained that he learned his “brother” had been “jumped” by a group of people. When detectives asked whether that person was the juvenile witness, Miles said yes, then clarified that the juvenile witness was not his biological brother but a close friend.

Miles told investigators he then got into a physical fight with the group of people who had assaulted the juvenile witness. When detectives told Miles they believed he had stabbed the juvenile victim, Miles first said he had not stabbed anyone. Investigators said Miles then stated that he had “defended” the juvenile witness and himself.

When asked whether he stabbed the juvenile victim out of anger or in self-defense, Miles allegedly dipped his head low and said that he “defended himself.” A detective then asked, “so would it be fair to say that you stabbed him out of self-defense?” Investigators said Miles nodded yes and stated, “its fair to say that defended myself.”

Investigators wrote that Miles did not tell them he saw anyone else with a weapon and described the incident as a large fight. Based on Miles’ statements, the juvenile victim’s description, witness accounts, observations that Miles fled the area, statements that he needed to leave quickly, the removed white shirt, and stains believed to be blood on the shirt, investigators said they had reason to believe Miles stabbed the juvenile victim and caused life-threatening injuries.

Miles was arrested and taken to the Calvert County Detention Center. The charges filed against him are attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and second-degree assault.

Miles appeared before a judicial officer on July 6, 2026. He was found eligible for public defender representation at the initial appearance and was represented remotely by a court-appointed attorney. The judicial officer ordered Miles held without bond. A bail review was scheduled for July 7, 2026, and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for August 5, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in Calvert District Court.

7/6/2026: On July 5, 2026, at approximately 9:22 p.m., deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Solomons Island Gazebo for a reported fight involving multiple individuals. Due to the rescheduled Solomons fireworks display, a large crowd was gathered in the area. While deputies were responding, the Calvert County Control Center received additional information indicating that an individual armed with a knife had stabbed another person.

Because of the fireworks event, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office had a significant law enforcement presence in Solomons. Deputies arrived on scene and located the juvenile victim, and immediately began providing life-saving medical care. The victim had sustained multiple stab wounds and was subsequently flown by Maryland State Police Aviation Command to a local trauma center for injuries received.

Through the rapid response and coordinated efforts of deputies on scene, detectives quickly identified the suspect. The suspect, later identified as Devin Allen Miles, 23 of Lexington Park, was located while attempting to flee the area. Miles was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. Miles was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, First-Degree Assault, and Second-Degree Assault.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information is asked to contact Detective W. Freeland of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Bureau at [email protected].
