On Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at approximately 4:38 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the Wicomico Shores Public Landing located on Army Navy Drive in Mechanicsville, for the reported drowning.
911 callers reported a 3-year-old male was found face down in the water, with the child being awake and breathing at the time of the call.
Maryland State Police Aviation Command Trooper 7 was placed on standby incase needed.
Crews arrived on the scene to confirm the child was awake and crying with difficulty breathing, and confirmed a helicopter was needed after consultation with the Children’s Center.
Trooper 7 launched and landed nearby.
The child was being flown to the Children’s National Hospital by Trooper 7.
Police are investigating the incident.
