Sharkfest Returns to the Calvert Marine Museum with Live Sharks, Hands-On Activities, and Family Fun

July 9, 2026

Dive into a day of shark-filled adventure at the Calvert Marine Museum’s annual Sharkfest on Saturday, July 11, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This family-friendly event celebrates one of the ocean’s most fascinating predators with live sharks, interactive learning, hands-on activities, and prehistoric discoveries.

New this year, live sharks will be featured indoors in the museum’s Harms Gallery, giving visitors the opportunity to observe these remarkable animals up close in a comfortable, climate-controlled setting. Guests can learn about shark biology, conservation, and the vital role sharks play in healthy marine ecosystems. To support the health and well-being of the animals, shark touching will not be offered.

Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy a shark-themed craft, interactive education stations, and hands-on activities designed for all. Budding paleontologists can discover fascinating “sharktoids,” examine evidence of prehistoric sharks, and explore the incredible world of these ancient ocean predators.

The Museum Store will also host a Sharkfest Guessing Game, where guests can test their skills by guessing how many shark teeth are in the jar. The closest guess without going over will win a prize. One entry is permitted per visitor, and the winner will be announced at 3 p.m. Participants do not need to be present to win.

Because Sharkfest is one of the museum’s most popular annual events, advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended for non-members, as capacity is limited. Museum members receive free admission.

Please note that strollers and carts are not permitted inside the museum during Sharkfest to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests.

Tickets and additional event information are available at calvertmarinemuseum.com.
