Raymond Regis Posten, 85, of Huntingtown, Maryland, passed away on July 6, 2026, at Calvert Hospital in Prince Frederick, Maryland. He was born on October 16, 1940, in California, Pennsylvania, to his parents, Myrtle Marie (Wainwright) and Guy DeSales Posten.
Ray grew up in California, Beallsville, and West Brownsville, Pennsylvania. He attended Centerville High School, graduating class of 1958. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s Degree in secondary school Education of Sciences from the California State College in California, PA.
He met the love of his life, Sylvia Katherine Turner in the summer of 1965 in Georgetown , Washington DC. They were married in July 1966, and made their home in Evans City, Pennsylvania welcoming three children in just three years. With a new teaching job offer in Southern Maryland, they moved to Clinton, Maryland, in 1972.
After a little more than a decade, they relocated to a tidewater home off the Patuxent River in Huntingtown, Maryland, in 1984. Together, Ray and Sylvia shared 56 years of marriage and countless adventures—whether navigating the waters of the river or crossing the country to explore National Parks and visit loved ones—until Sylvia’s passing in 2022.
Ray led a long and successful career as a high school educator, teaching in the Seneca Valley school district in Pennsylvania from 1967 to 1972, and at Frederick Douglass High School in Upper Marlboro, Maryland from 1972 until his retirement in 2002.
His passion for his family, education, nature, history, and adventure spanned his entire life. As a young man in the late 1950s, he spent a couple memorable years in the Seattle area with his brother Warren (and family) while working at Boeing and pursuing the adventures of scuba-diving, sailing and boating. Ray, in his retirement years, enjoyed golfing, boating, sailing, and the many driving trips across and all over the country. He loved his family over all else and treasured the time he spent with them.
Ray is survived by his three children, Kelley Miller (Greg), Ryan Posten (Vasiliki), and Jennifer Antonielli; his eight grandchildren, Abigail, Miranda, and Caroline Posten, Wade (Zoe), Jacob, and Samuel Antonielli, Katherine and Kurt Miller; his great-grandchild, Vivien Antonielli; his brother, Donald Posten; brother-in-law, David Turner, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Sylvia Katherine Posten; his parents, Guy and Myrtle Posten; his parents-in-law, Jack and Inge Turner; his siblings, Warren Posten, Sr. (Evonne), Lawerence Posten (Yvonne), Constance Hoyack (Herbert), and sister-in-law Claudia Albright (Henry).
A service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July, 10, 2026, at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 1601 W. Mt. Harmony Road, Owings, Maryland, 20736, with interment at the JGS Cemetery.
