“Porky” from St. Mary’s County, her son and her best friend will be using part of the proceeds from a $50,000 prize to take a vacation to Jamaica.
After her brother passed away a few years ago, a St. Mary’s County woman noticed a five-digit code associated with his services and has played it regularly as her Pick 5 combination ever since. The combination came up straight for the midday drawing on June 24, giving her a $50,000 win.
The winner, who is going by the alias “Porky,” typically buys a week’s worth of tickets at Accokeek Gas & Go, but doesn’t always pay attention to the drawings. She told Lottery officials when claiming on July 10 that she was at home in the St. Mary’s community of California, reclining on her couch when she checked the tickets.
“I had to do a double take!” she said of her reaction to finding out about the big win.
Her previous personal best Lottery win had been $800, so this one really caught her attention.
Accompanying “Porky” to claim the prize were her son and best friend, who have all been pondering a vacation to Jamaica. The big win makes that Caribbean trip a reality for the trio. She’ll also be using the windfall to settle some bills.
Not only does “Porky” plan to continue playing the Lottery in hopes of hitting even bigger, but her best friend also has been convinced to partake in the games.
