Patrick Wayne Wood, 24, of Chaptico, and April M. Quade, 29, of Mechanicsville, were arrested July 15, 2026, after deputies investigating an allegedly stolen vehicle went to a home on Hill Farm Lane in Chaptico. Wood faces charges of unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, unauthorized removal of property, possession of a controlled substance other than cannabis, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Quade is charged with failing to comply with a peace order.
The investigation began July 14, 2026, when a male vehicle owner contacted the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and reported that his green 2003 Honda CR-V had been stolen from Old Lockes Hill Road in Mechanicsville. The vehicle was valued at approximately $3,000.
Deputies located the Honda at the Hill Farm Lane residence at approximately 5:50 a.m. July 15, 2026. Wood was found at the property and was advised of his rights before agreeing to speak with investigators.
Authorities said Wood admitted “he had taken the vehicle, kept the vehicle, was in possession of the vehicle, and when he was asked to return the vehicle, he refused to do so in a timely manner.”
Wood was arrested at the residence. During a search following his arrest, deputies allegedly found a glass smoking device containing suspected crack cocaine residue in his front left pants pocket. He was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center at approximately 7:12 a.m.
While deputies were recovering the vehicle, an adult female resident told investigators that her son’s bedroom was locked even though he was outside the home. She said someone might be inside the room.
A deputy asked Wood who was in the bedroom, and authorities said he confirmed that Quade was inside. The resident gave deputies permission to force open the bedroom door.
Once inside, deputies allegedly found Quade hiding in a closet. Investigators identified her through previous interactions with law enforcement and by comparing her appearance with her driver’s license photograph.
Authorities said Quade had been served with a final peace order on June 8, 2026. The order prohibited her from entering the Hill Farm Lane residence. She was arrested on an allegation that she violated that restriction by being inside the home.
Quade was initially held without bond. Her release conditions prohibited her from contacting or harassing the adult female resident and from entering or going near the Hill Farm Lane property. She was released on her own recognizance following a bond review July 16, 2026.
Wood was released on a $1,500 unsecured personal bond. His conditions included no contact with the male vehicle owner, no intimidation or harassment of that person, and no alcohol or unlawful controlled-substance use.
