On Monday, July 20, 2026, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police, firefighters and emergency medical services responded to the area of North Sandgates Road and Ridge Road in Mechanicsville, for the serious motor vehicle collision with rollover.
While First Responders were enroute to the scene, callers reported the vehicle was smoking and possibly on fire.
Firefighters from the Hollywood Volunteer Fire Department responded with Rescue Squad 7, Chief 7 and Engine 71 and arrived on scene to confirm a single vehicle on its side after striking a utility pole, with live wires down and no entrapment.
SMECO was requested to expedite to the scene due to the vehicle being on fire with live wires downed nearby.
North Sandgates Road remains CLOSED – Avoid the area and expect extended delays for the next 3+ hours.
The fire was extinguished within 12 minutes of dispatch. EMS remains on scene evaluating the single occupant of the vehicle who has minor/no injuries.
